Officials need more time to develop the modularization capability and project Jigsaw. This has delayed the Java9’s arrival and the java development team needs to wait for May 2017 to unveil the update and its features.
Java 9 is a major release of the platform, which was planned for September 2016, will now available in May 2017. While developers are just get disappointed due to this postponed plan, officials are blaming the complexities in developing modularization for this delay. They have made great progress in past 18 months, but Jigsaw requires extra time.
It is worth to wait or not- developers in the market want to know
The volume of interest and premium quality feedback received by officials over the last two months shows that there are a lot more to come. Officials have ensured that the maintainers of the essential building tools and IDEs have sufficient time to intend, design, and implement great support for modular development.
This is why it is worth to wait for the release of Java9. Officials have proposed a 6-month extension of the Java development 9 schedule and it will be generally available in March 2017.
Project Jigsaw is intended with a goal to make Java modular and break the JRE to interoperable components. The purpose behind this update is to make java easily scalable to small screen computing devices, enhance performance and security and let the developers to build and maintain libraries.
If you go into depth, you will come across many other unwrapped issues around Jigsaw that shows the module system is not ready to be tested by public yet. Overall, you can already see several projects intending codebase for Java9. Apache Lucene is expected to get complete support of Jigsaw by version 5.4 and will be available within next weeks.
Java development team is really looking forward to use the upcoming tools and features and is eagerly waiting for JDK 9 release.
